Ensler's latest work is a new musical theatre piece called, "Emotional Creature: The secret life of girls around the world," which chronicles what its like to be a teenage girl through a series of stories, songs, dance and monologues. The multi-ethnic cast is made up of 6 girls who each tell a tale of hardships women around the world face from coping to being a factory worker to genital mutilation.
Here's an interview with Ensler, where she talks about "Emotional Creature".
What does Ensler want the audience to take away from the play?
"I hope that women and men, girls and boys will leave the theater respecting girls and women. I hope that we will value them, and not sell them and cut them and rape them and bully them and assault them and embarrass them and humiliate them and shame them and undermine them the way that we do. Also, that we respect the girl in us. It is the part of us that is open and vulnerable and compassionate and resilient and revolutionary and emotional."
