Bond Girls: Then and Now

Journalism professor Robert Quigley tweeted this link today, showing what the women of the Bond films looked like at the time of the film and in 2012. I thought it was strange that they included the newest one, "Skyfall," but whatever. I know that there had been a Bond post on the blog a couple of weeks ago and I thought this one was interesting as well, since it focused on the female roles in each film, even pointing out which were love interests and which were enemies. There were also a few actresses that I hadn't known were in James Bond movies until today, so that was interesting.

Looking at the pictures alone, you can tell what era the movie is from, but that doesn't mean that the movies present women more respectfully in the past decade or so, necessarily. For instance, there are photos from the films showing women wearing bikinis from the 1960s, 1970s, and the 2000s. I also didn't go to the main website where the graphic was posted, so I couldn't see the comments, but I'd be willing to bet there are at least a few that disparage the women's aging process or something along those lines, because we see things like that all the time online.

Anyway, I just thought it was an interesting thing to look at, and it seemed like it could pertain to some of the pop culture stuff we've been talking about in class lately.
