It's a woman's right to wear a headscarf

In westernized culture we have stereotyped Muslim women who wear headscarfs and burqa's as being oppressed when in reality, it is up to THEM to decide if they want to wear it or not. Of course, depending on how you're raised, a girl may be forced to wear it by her father or husband but American women experience a larger sense of freedom in that area.

As I was reading an article by Sahar Aziz that talks about having women's rights organizations support women who want to wear their headscarf. It is just as much a women's issue as women who do NOT want to wear it.

In today's society we tend to believe that not wearing as much clothes creates a sense of empowerment because we are "comfortable" with our body or that there is nothing wrong with that. There isn't. But we as true feminists we also have to support the women who want to cover themselves from head to toe. It is their right, just as it is ours to have our hair naturally flowing in the wind.

"In the end, a woman's rights are about personal autonomy to choose her life's path, not whether we approve it."
