Hawkeye in Repose

Think the comic book image above is sexist? Does it portray the female body in a suggestive, unnatural, and unrealistic pose? Well, you're not alone. Wired recently reported on the Tumblr blog, The Hawkeye Initiative, that takes strange female poses from comics and re-imagines them with the male superhero Hawkeye in their place. Like this:
The webcomic artist who proposed the concept, Noelle Stevenson, spoke to Wired and raised an interesting point about the criticism the blog has received.

"Stevenson remains unfazed by the complaints. “My favorite part is the people who are getting mad and freaking out about it, because we haven’t done anything but take the poses that were already drawn and replace them with a character that already exists, and the only difference is gender.”"

Check out the blog (link above) for a whole lot more examples.
