Hi Class,
I ran across this blog post on someone else's blog but I still found it kind of cool. I've never known that today was International Day of the Girl. I really think something like this can be good for many different reasons. It seems like a big deal, the UN is backing it. I'm kind of just wondering what you guys think about this movement? Its fairly recent but where do you think it will be in 10 years? Knowing what we know about gender bias, and all we've learned in class, i'm interested to hear what people think of this? Is it necessary? Do you think a following will begin to accumulate for this movement?
Thoughts?
I personally think this is awesome. I think its important to get young girls in on this because maybe they'll grow up knowing that things aren't "perfect" or necessarily "easy" for a woman in our day and age. I also think its important to note that gender bias is a world wide problem that needs to be adressed. I also see how this could backfire. This movement could give young girls a complex about where they belong in the world. It could also just lose steam and not really go anywhere, but I really appreciate that awareness seems to be the most important step this movement is making. I think once more people become aware of this day and movement, more people will likely support it.
