Local News Anchor Enraged by Letter About Her Appearance

I read this article and thought it was very interesting. I had heard this story on number of news outlets. A local news anchor by the name of Jennifer Livingston received a letter saying she is fat, a bad role model and setting a horrible example for girls. Livingston responded to the letter by taking 4 minutes of her segment to address why it was hateful and unnecessary. Other outlets have applauded this move while others have criticized it. The main argument is that was she took the time out of her segment for attention ( She has been interviewed by the TODAY show). However, I wanted to address how important are looks in the media? I feel that women get more criticized for their looks than men. We have also gone through many examples in class that deal with this issue. What do you all think?
