I was scrolling through The New York Times site this afternoon and came across an op-ed that ties directly into what we've discussed in class regarding if women can have it all and women in the workplace. The editorial, by Alissa Quart, discusses how pregnant women often hide their pregnancies for fear they will either not get hired for a position or they will have a harder time being promoted and moving up in their respective field or profession. Last month, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act was introduced in the U.S. Senate an would require employers to offer workplace accommodations for pregnant women, like exempting them from duties that involve heavy lifting and offering them plenty of water breaks, among other things - the same sort of accommodations offered to disabled workers."
What are your thoughts on this? Is the discrimination pregnant women face also an example of a double bind?
