If you were watching the presidential debates tonight, you know one of the questions addressed was about gender inequality in the workplace.
Romney's response included a story of his team scouting qualified women to be on his cabinet as governor because only men had applied. Romney said his team asked women's advocacy groups for help who brought them "binders full of women."
It got me thinking of lots of things. First, Romney's comments made me realize women really don't apply for jobs in the political sphere. We talked about this in class today, about the lack of women in political offices. For qualified men it is so easy to apply to these positions of power but for qualified women it can be harsh trying enter a sphere dominated by men because they think they're not qualified or don't have the support to do so. Secondly, Romney and his team had to seek these qualified women from women's groups found in a binder, which is pretty sad. Why didn't women apply? Did Romeny's team not have a network of qualified women already?
And of course Romney's comment about "binders full of women" exploded all over the internet before the debate ended.
Did you think Romeny's comment was pretty ridiculous? Or did the media blow it up?
What did you think about Obama's response to the gender inequality in the workplace question?
