In the interview, Goldman discusses with Hedren a new HBO movie which focuses on the actress' relationship with director Alfred Hitchcock and how Hitchcock sexually harassed her. During the interview, Goldman asks Hedren if she was ever tempted to have sex with directors in order to further her career. This question elicited the below tweet from Weiner and the following response from Goldman (since the exchange, Goldman's Twitter account has been deactivated):
@jenniferweiner: Saturday am. Iced coffee. NYT mag. See which actress Andrew Goldman has accused of sleeping her way to the top. #traditionsicoulddowithout
The exchange did not end with the two tweets and instead expanded into multiple tweets with Goldman continuing to attack Weiner and debate New Yorker TV critic Emily Nussbaum. A full Storify of the exchange is available here.
On Monday, Goldman apologized to Weiner but not without facing a reprimand from the editor of the New York Times Magazine and a response from the New York Time's Public Editor.
What are your thoughts on this exchange? How does this exchange and Goldman's comments reflect on the field of journalism and its treatment of women?
